Building Fortress-Level Security in Legal AI: Meet Our New CISO

THE AUTHORS:
Matthieu Guilpin, Chief Information Security Officer, Jus Mundi

In the legal technology landscape, there’s no room for compromise when it comes to data security.

As we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with Jus AI, the arrival of Matthieu Guilpin, our new Chief Information Security Officer couldn’t be more timely. His mission? To ensure Jus AI delivers not only exceptional results but also uncompromising security that you can trust.

We sat down with Matthieu to discuss his vision, our current security posture, and how we’re preparing for the future of secure AI in legal tech.

A Personal Mission in Security Leadership

“I have been impressed and inspired by Jean-Rémi’s vision, and we work closely to ensure our security controls align with our business needs,” Matthieu explains.

His credentials speak volumes about his ability to deliver on this mission. During his tenure at Mirakl, he orchestrated a complete security transformation, taking the company from zero security certifications to achieving SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27018, and ISO 22301.

“My core expertise lies in GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) and ensuring compliance with top-tier security standards. I also specialize in helping tech companies grow by integrating security into business strategy and leveraging it as a competitive advantage,” he adds.

“Achieving ISO 27001 certification is highly significant for Jus Mundi as it demonstrates our commitment to aligning our security measures with internationally recognized standards,” explains Yohan Daddou. “What makes this certification particularly significant is the regular review by independent auditors, ensuring our security controls are consistently monitored and validated.”

This philosophy perfectly aligns with our approach at Jus Mundi – security isn’t a roadblock to innovation; it’s the foundation that makes bold innovation possible.

Jus AI’s Multi-Layered Security Architecture

Building on our existing ISO 27001 certification, Matthieu is strengthening Jus AI’s security foundation even further.

“Our approach is to be compliant with the best security standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2, and with the industry best practices,” he explains.

The technical safeguards are comprehensive. At Jus Mundi, we have built our software and infrastructure with security at the core. The production environment is fully isolated, user data is segmented, and all information is encrypted both in transit and at rest.

These safeguards are continuously challenged through our bug bounty program and regular penetration testing, ensuring sensitive legal documents are protected at every touchpoint; from entry to storage and processing.

Transforming Security Into Company DNA

Matthieu understands that strong security depends on people, not just technology. His approach to security awareness is both modern and practical:

“We constantly test our staff, especially against phishing, and deliver security awareness integrated directly into our tech stack. Trainings are tailored to each team, including OWASP Top 10 sessions for tech teams to ensure awareness of the biggest threats.”

His philosophy is simple, “Our staff must act as human firewalls, regularly reminded of their role in protecting the organization.”

Future-Proofing Jus AI

While others struggle to keep up with industry demands and evolving regulations, Matthieu is already positioning Jus AI for the future.

“We have very high ambitions, speeding up to ensure we are compliant with the best standards: SOC 2 for security, availability, and confidentiality, and ISO 42001 to demonstrate that we manage AI systems responsibly, ensuring transparency, risk management, ethics, and regulatory alignment in AI use.”

This forward-looking mindset is backed by action. We are:

  • Increasing the frequency of security testing with external experts
  • Staying fully aligned with evolving regulations, including the EU AI Act
  • Continuously improving internal safeguards to keep pace with best practices

“Our goal is not just to protect against today’s threats but to stay ahead of risks that haven’t even emerged yet,” Matthieu adds.

Trust and Security as Our Competitive Advantage

“AI is transforming our workplace and society. We cannot ignore it, and using it is not optional anymore. But the security concerns are legit,” says Matthieu.

In the age of AI, trust must be earned through transparency, validated through independent audits, and maintained through relentless vigilance. We recently completed an independent audit against the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications and passed every test. Jus AI is secure even for your most sensitive use cases.

At Jus Mundi, we don’t just acknowledge these concerns; we act on them. Matthieu adds, “To build trust with our clients, we conduct annual audits based on leading AI standards, including the OWASP Top 10 for AI applications and ISO 42001. This ensures our use of AI remains responsible, secure, and transparent.”

Sensitive legal documents, client confidentiality, professional reputation are the foundation upon which we have built every line of code, every security protocol, and every decision we make. That’s why we have built a dedicated Trust Center, where you can access everything from security certifications, audit reports like our AI Trust Report, and penetration test results, all verified by independent experts.

Welcome to the future of legal AI – secure, transparent, and built for trust.
