Bredin Prat Talks Jus AI Assistant: Insights from Early Access Program Participants

AI is reshaping industries worldwide, and the legal industry is no exception. As the leading provider of legal tech solutions in the arbitration industry, Jus Mundi unveiled earlier this year Jus AI Assistant, an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) solution that revolutionizes the way the global arbitration community shapes winning strategies.

We interviewed our Early Access Program participants, which are law firms leading the way in innovation, to gather their insights on Jus AI Assistant and how the tool accelerates their legal research, streamlines their workflows, and elevate their strategic analysis.

Bredin Prat is a multidisciplinary law firm founded in 1966, first renowned for its expertise in litigation and arbitration. Through its Best Friends network of independent law firms, Bredin Prat provides a truly global legal service. Its arbitration practice has been a leading practice of the firm since its inception and is recognized for its excellence.

We sat down with their International Arbitration team to discuss their vision and usage of generative AI, and especially Jus AI Assistant.

What is the vision or strategy of Bredin Prat when it comes to generative AI & emerging technologies?

Our strategy is to stay at the forefront of technical innovation whilst remaining faithful to our core commitments to excellence, confidentiality and premier client service. Generative AI & emerging related technologies are developing at rapid pace in the legal sector worldwide. We are keen to understand, test and choose the best existing AI tools across all of our practice teams as part of our constant effort to provide the best possible work product without compromising confidentiality, data protection and – of course – analytical quality.

What motivated your team to join the Jus AI Assistant Early Access Program?

We have been using Jus Mundi since its inception. We particularly appreciate Jus Mundi’s uniquely rich international law/arbitration-related database, its constant effort to expand its sources through internationally diverse partnerships with governments and arbitral institutions as well as its user-friendly interface. It was therefore natural for us to agree to test Jus Mundi’s latest product, especially given our firm’s general strategy regarding the testing, training and prospective use of generative AI capacities.

What feature did you particularly find useful and why?

Mostly interacting with a specific case, as the legal research tool has only become available relatively recently.

In what ways do you believe AI has influenced the legal industry so far?

Jus AI Assistant offers valuable assistance by quickly analyzing large volumes of awards, crucial for time-sensitive tasks in the legal field. Its Case Insights feature efficiently filters through cases, reducing a pool of 50 to the top 10 most relevant ones.

What do you foresee will be the impact of AI on the arbitration world?

It is probably too soon to tell. Most law firms seem eager to explore various AI tools while remaining cautious of their pitfalls (such as hallucinations, confidentiality issues, etc). However, it seems undeniable that AI will have a significant impact on the industry due to its ability to extract very precise information from large volumes of documents, compile document indices or conduct formal source checks in a very short time span, all capacities that are highly valuable for international arbitration practices and, ultimately, arbitration users. Whilst AI will not “replace” arbitration lawyers, it will serve as a quintessential tool to optimize quantitative aspects of our work and to provide quick “first-look” guidance in conducting legal research. In the future, the use of AI in the legal field will require the highest possible level of quality control and rigorous verification of compliance with all currently emerging and rapidly expanding local, European and possibly international regulatory standards. At Bredin Prat, we are mindful of the need to ensure that all our lawyers, and most importantly the younger generations, continue to receive the highest quality training in order to continue to be top of the game on these issues.
