About the Firm
Costa Rodrigues Advogados, known as COSRO, is a Brazil-based firm with over 50 attorneys. A spinoff from DLA Piper, the firm is organized around industries and sectors rather than traditional legal departments, allowing it to deliver highly specialized advice to clients across complex, high-stakes matters.
The firm’s arbitration practice is concentrated in the energy sector, with a strong focus on oil and gas, construction, and renewables. At any given time, the team is managing approximately 15 active ICC arbitrations, the majority of which involve construction disputes within the energy and natural resources space.
COSRO handles both domestic Brazilian matters and international cases, requiring its lawyers to navigate a dual-track research environment: deep Brazilian market knowledge alongside international case law, awards, and doctrine.
The Opportunity
Operational Challenge
Arbitration research at COSRO meant working across multiple disparate platforms to build a
complete picture on any given issue, adding time and complexity even to well-defined research
like tribunal constitution.
For a practice managing +15 simultaneous ICC cases, this was not sustainable. The team needed a way to conduct research that was thorough, fast, and reliable, without the overhead of switching between tools and databases to piece together a complete analysis.
Strategic Challenge
As adoption of Jus AI grew across the arbitration community, it became clear the tool would be
integral to any practice aiming to deliver best-in-class representation.
At the same time, clients were raising the bar. They expected their counsel to leverage the best technology available, and they expected faster turnaround without any compromise on quality. The firm’s focus from day one was clear: give clients the caliber of research and turnaround they expect, regardless of firm size.
The Solution
COSRO chose Jus AI for several reasons, and the decision was both strategic and practical.
The consolidation of research into a single platform was a fundamental shift. Rather than moving between tools, the team could now access commercial arbitration cases, investment cases, awards, articles, and secondary sources in one place.
Two integrations were particularly decisive. First, the ICC DRL access: with approximately 15 active ICC cases, having the AI layer combined with the ICC DRL library in one platform was, as Caroit describes it, “extremely useful for us and makes our lives easier as we navigate through these 10 complex construction cases that are ICC cases.“
Second, Jus Mundi’s presence and partnerships in the Brazilian market proved equally important. The firm’s integration with Sebar, CAMSE, and CBC gave COSRO access to Brazilian-specific cases and information that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to source, covering both the international and domestic dimensions of their practice.
The firm already used other AI tools across different departments. Jus AI was the missing piece: a specialized, arbitration-focused intelligence layer that complemented the broader toolset without duplicating it.
The Impact
Tribunal Constitution Research: From Days to Hours
The single most concrete improvement has been in tribunal constitution research. This is among the most consequential steps in any arbitration, requiring detailed analysis of arbitrator profiles, past decisions, institutional affiliations, and potential conflicts across multiple case types.
With Jus AI, this process has been transformed:
“Sometimes research that would take five or four days, is now taking one or two days, so that really makes a difference because we’re able to focus on actually analyzing the results of this research and assessing whether, despite what the research says, we want to appoint a candidate or there’s objections to be made.”
The result is measurable: research that previously required four to five days now takes one to two. That time saving goes directly back into analysis, judgment, and strategy.
Research Quality That Matches the Speed
Speed without accuracy would be worthless in arbitration. Jus AI delivers both. The platform’s constant updates mean the team can conduct research on highly specific issues, including force majeure, hardship, and construction-specific disputes, with confidence that they are working from the most current information available. As Caroit notes, “given that it’s constantly updated, we’re certain that we haven’t missed anything.“
The breadth of sources also matters. Jus AI brings together primary sources such as awards alongside secondary sources including doctrine, commentary, and publications from OUP, Brill, Revue de l’Arbitrage, and the ICC DRL.
“Having everything consolidated in one platform, one database, made a huge difference for us.
With Jus AI, I no longer have to switch platforms to find the doctrine that supports the interpretation of the award I’m looking at.”
A Research Plan That Acts as Both Brainstorming and Safety Net
One feature Caroit highlights as particularly valuable is the research plan that Jus AI surfaces during a query. For her, this serves two simultaneous functions:
“For me, it’s sort of brainstorming. I see what Jus AI is doing, how it’s thinking, and it’s really helpful to assess it’s going the right way and it makes me think of other points I hadn’t thought of. So, that’s why it’s really like brainstorming and, at the same time, a safety check.”
This kind of structured, transparent reasoning is what sets Jus AI apart from general-purpose AI tools. It does not just return results; it shows its work.
Stronger Written Submissions Across the Whole Team
The impact of Jus AI is felt at every level of the firm, from interns to partners. When preparing written submissions, the team uses Jus AI to analyze opposing parties’ arguments, identify any gaps in their own position, and conduct targeted research on specific points of law. The platform’s depth and reliability means that quality control is built into the research process itself.
“An important point to bear in mind is that obviously Jus AI is very fast, but it also provides you quality results.”
Delivering More Value to Clients, Faster
Research efficiency translates directly into client value. Faster turnaround times allow the team to focus on the substantive, high-value work that matters most to clients.
“Jus AI helps us bring client value in a unique manner because it allows us to have a faster turnaround, which allows us to focus on other more substantive tasks that are more valuable for the client, and it strengthens our relationship with the client.”
Client expectations are also clear.
“Our clients expect us to be able to use the best technology available to represent them in their cases and, as it stands, Jus AI is that best technology available in arbitration.“
Built for Complex, High-Stakes Work
With Jus AI, COSRO brings the same speed and depth of research to every mandate, however complex or multi-jurisdictional, giving the team full confidence in the quality of their analysis.
The time freed from research is reinvested into advocacy, drafting, and business development, exactly the activities that build a firm’s reputation and deepen client relationships.
“Clearly, thanks to Jus AI, we’re able to build and strengthen our client relationships.”
Closing Value
For COSRO, Jus AI is a strategic equalizer. By compressing research timelines, consolidating information, and giving every lawyer on the team access to the depth of a full research operation, Jus AI has enabled COSRO to consistently deliver research of the highest caliber, while freeing up time for the work that moves cases forward.
More time to think. More time to argue. More value for clients.
That is the competitive advantage.
