Jus Mundi Welcomes Michele as Head of APAC

Press Release

Paris, 31 July 2025

We’re thrilled to welcome Michele Sonen as our new Head of APAC, based in South Korea. With nearly a decade of experience in international arbitration across Asia, Michele brings both deep regional insight and a strong belief in innovation through technology.

“I’ve cared about access to justice since my early days working in social justice and human rights,” she shares. “Joining Jus Mundi felt like a natural way to bring that mission into the legal world – using AI to solve real challenges that legal professionals face every day.”

A Legal Career with Global Range

Michele’s career spans private practice, arbitral institutions, national courts, and human rights advocacy.

She most recently led strategy and stakeholder engagement across North East Asia and the Middle East at one of the world’s top arbitral institutions. Before that, she practiced international arbitration at a top-tier law firm in Seoul. She’s also a qualified U.S. attorney and earned her law degree in her hometown of Honolulu.

“I’ve seen international dispute resolution from multiple perspectives – that helps me connect with clients and understand what they need from a platform like Jus Mundi.”

Deepening Jus Mundi’s Roots in APAC

Jus Mundi already has strong relationships across the region, especially in China, India, Korea, Singapore, and beyond. Michele’s goal is to build on that foundation – not just by growing reach, but by staying closely aligned with local needs.

“It’s about listening – really listening – to how professionals in this region work. From research habits to team structures and pricing models, we want to make sure our tools reflect the realities of arbitration in APAC.”

The new office at the Maxwell Chambers in Singapore plays a central role in this approach.

“Being here means we’re closer to our users. We can co-create solutions, form stronger partnerships, and respond quicker.”

Powering the Future of Arbitration in Asia-Pacific

Asia-Pacific is one of the most dynamic regions in international arbitration today. It’s home to some of the world’s most preferred arbitral seats and institutions, a significant share of global Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and three of the five largest economies. From energy to infrastructure to tech, many of the world’s most complex and high-value cross-border transactions are rooted in Asia.

This translates into a fast-growing and sophisticated legal market – one that’s increasingly focused on efficiency, strategy, and cost-effectiveness.

“Practitioners in APAC are dealing with growing caseloads and high client expectations. They’re looking for tools that help them move faster, think more strategically, and deliver sharper legal advice.”

That’s where Jus AI comes in. Designed specifically for international arbitration, it’s built on the world’s most comprehensive international law and arbitration database – with 114k+ case documents including nearly 16k+ final commercial arbitration awards and leading secondary sources from Oxford University Press, Juris, and more.

“Jus AI lets lawyers cut through complexity and get to key insight. That’s game-changing for smaller teams, high-pressure matters, and cross-border disputes.”

Whether you’re researching, drafting, comparing documents, or translating legal text, Jus AI accelerates the process – without compromising depth, accuracy, and security.

“By freeing up time and reducing manual work, lawyers can focus on what really matters: delivering better outcomes for clients.”

Michele sees broader access to legal data – especially arbitral awards – as key to long-term change in the region.

“It’s not just about speed. Over time, more transparency and better tools will lead to more consistent outcomes and stronger trust in the arbitral process.”

Looking Ahead

Michele is eager to grow our presence in APAC – by strengthening existing partnerships and forming new ones across the legal ecosystem.

“I’m especially focused on expanding the diversity of legal content from this region. The world benefits when APAC’s perspectives and legal developments are visible and accessible.”
