How Jus Mundi & Jus AI Empowered Vis Moots 2025 Participants

THE AUTHOR:
Ushir Shah, Marketing Manager at Jus Mundi

Every year, the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna and the Vis East Moot in Hong Kong bring together the world’s most promising young arbitration practitioners. These premier competitions are more than just academic exercises; they are launchpads for future leaders in international law and arbitration.

As a longstanding partner of both moots since 2020, Jus Mundi has always believed in supporting the next generation of practitioners.

But in 2025, we took a step forward. For the first time in the competition’s history, participants were granted access to Jus AI, a suite of AI assistants tailored for arbitration practitioners and international lawyers.

A Shared Mission

At its core, the Vis Moot exists to democratize access to arbitration education, ensuring that opportunity depends on talent, not geography or resources. Jus Mundi has proudly supported this mission for years by offering free access to its legal database for all participating teams, with special focus on students from underserved jurisdictions and underfunded universities.

Sherling Tung, on behalf of the Vis East Directors, said:

The Vis East is grateful for Jus Mundi’s dedicated support to its main principles, to create global access for students to learn about commercial law and arbitration. Jus Mundi’s offer of Jus AI this year further enhanced the students’ education by granting them access to cutting-edge legal research tools that mirror what they will encounter in practice. It’s a significant step forward in bridging the gap between legal education and practice, and in preparing the next generation of international arbitration and trade academics and practitioners.

Stefan Kröll, Director of the Vis Moot, also said:

“As a director of the Vis Moot, I am very grateful for Jus Mundi’s long-standing support of the students, which – in addition to allowing free access to its databases – included this year a presentation of its AI tool Jus AI to the participants in Vienna and Hong Kong. To ensure that the student engage in the critical thinking part themselves, the Vis Directors have allowed the use of AI only to a limited extend, i.e., for the “non-creative” parts of the briefs. At the same time, it is important that the students become aware of the existence and chance of the specific AI tools which are available to help them in their future work as a lawyer of which Jus AI is definitively one.

Real-World Tools for Tomorrow’s Lawyers

At the Vis Moot, students aren’t just learning theory, they’re preparing for real-world legal practice. Jus Mundi supports this journey by providing free access to our expansive, multilingual database, featuring arbitral awards, procedural orders, and leading case law from across jurisdictions.

This year again, their preparation was further enriched by Danubia Files 2: Lessons from the Vis Moot, a practical guide designed specifically for students, coaches, and aspiring arbitrators. The publication offers:

  • In-depth analysis of moot problems from the past decade
  • Insightful commentary by renowned arbitrators and legal scholars
  • Comprehensive discussions of procedural and substantive legal issues
  • Practical advice on advocacy, strategy, and award drafting

Available to all for free online, Danubia Files 2 has become an essential tool for legal education. All proceeds from print sales go directly to the Vis Foundation, supporting training and outreach in regions where access to arbitration education remains limited.

Jus AI in Action: A First for Oral Rounds

In 2025, mooties were able to use Jus AI during oral hearings, a first in the competition’s history.

With the support of the Vis Moot and Vis East Directors, this collaboration enabled students to:

  • Find legal authorities and deep-dive in to relevant case law
  • Summarize complex arbitral awards in seconds
  • Clarify provisions of the CISG and applicable procedural rules
  • Brainstorm arguments and counterarguments in real time

Why This Matters: Educating Practice-Ready Lawyers

The mooties experienced firsthand how AI is reshaping legal research and advocacy. With access to Jus AI, they enhanced their preparation, accelerated their research, and refined their strategic thinking, gaining skills that will define the future of legal practice.

Today, AI-powered legal tools like Jus AI are no longer optional. They have become standard across top law firms, corporate legal departments, and for other legal professionals globally.

For Vis Moot participants, this meant:

  • Gaining a competitive edge in research and oral advocacy
  • Being practice-ready for legal jobs and internships
  • Learning to integrate AI ethically and strategically into their work

Jus AI boosted students’ efficiency by helping them quickly summarize awards, find relevant cases, and brainstorm arguments; allowing them to focus on analysis and strategy rather than manual research. This hands-on exposure made students not just tech-aware, but truly tech-capable.

As a reward for their commitment to excellence, the 5 Vis Moot and Vis East winning teams received extended access to Jus Mundi and Jus AI, allowing them to continue their learning journey and deepen their expertise beyond the competition.

Building the Future of Arbitration Together

Jus Mundi’s partnership with the Vis Moot is more than sponsorship, it’s a shared commitment to democratizes access to global legal information.

By providing AI-powered tools like Jus AI to students, we help shape a global legal community that is better prepared, more connected, and driven by knowledge without borders.
