Jus Mundi’s First Mission Report: A Transparency Milestone in Global Legal Access

Jus Mundi Advances its Commitment to Power Global Justice by Becoming a Société à Mission

Press Release

Paris, 2 April 2025

Jus Mundi has released its inaugural Mission Report, marking a key milestone in its commitment as a Société à Mission to power global justice. The report publicly assesses the company’s progress in expanding access to legal information, fostering global legal connectivity, developing ethical AI, and ensuring responsible growth—reaffirming Jus Mundi’s belief that justice must be a universal right, not a privilege.

More than an internal review, the 2024 Mission Report is a statement of accountability—providing legal professionals, institutions, and stakeholders with a clear view of the impact made to date and the challenges that lie ahead.

A Year of Progress and Challenges

Since its founding, Jus Mundi has positioned itself as a champion of open legal knowledge, pushing against the barriers that make crucial legal resources difficult to access. In 2023, it formalized this mission by embedding it into its legal structure, ensuring that the company’s success is measured not just by revenue but by its impact on global justice.

The report outlines several key milestones, including:

  • Expanded access to legal knowledge by serving 12,500+ legal professionals in 190+ countries with Jus Mundi’s legal intelligence platform.
  • Strengthened global partnerships by collaborating with 90+ institutions and associations to enhance legal transparency and accessibility.
  • Advanced ethical AI practices by joining the EU AI Pact and reinforcing responsible AI governance in legal research.
  • Increased free legal access by extending the Research4Life partnership, providing open legal resources to practitioners in lower-income countries.

However, alongside these achievements, the report does not shy away from the challenges that remain. Access to legal information is still uneven across regions, ethical AI in law is an evolving landscape, and ensuring true global legal interconnectivity remains a work in progress.

Holding Mission-Driven Companies Accountable

For Jean-Rémi de Maistre, CEO & Co-Founder of Jus Mundi, the report is an essential step in proving that being mission-driven is more than just a label, stating:

“We founded Jus Mundi on the belief that legal knowledge should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. But making that a reality requires more than words—it requires action, measurement, and accountability. This report is our way of being fully transparent about what we’ve done and where we still have work to do.”

Jus Mundi’s mission is built around four key pillars aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals:

  1. Democratizing Access to Legal Knowledge – Ensuring that legal professionals worldwide, regardless of location or resources, have access to crucial legal materials.
  2. Interconnecting Legal Worlds – Strengthening collaboration between legal professionals, institutions, and experts across jurisdictions.
  3. Innovating Ethically & Sustainably – Developing AI-driven legal research tools that prioritize transparency, fairness, and ethical responsibility.
  4. Growing Responsibly – Embedding sustainability, diversity, and ethical governance into Jus Mundi’s growth model.

For Mission Committee Member Lise Alm, who leads the independent body overseeing Jus Mundi’s mission, the report is an opportunity to reflect on how companies can be held to their commitments:

“With the Mission Committee, our role is to ensure that Jus Mundi’s mission isn’t just a vision but a measurable reality. That means setting clear goals, tracking real progress, and making adjustments along the way to ensure that Jus Mundi truly expands access to legal information to drive justice forward. It’s not about ticking boxes—it’s about making a real difference and proving it.”

What’s Next

The 2024 Mission Report does not just look back—it sets the course for the next phase of the company’s mission.

Among the priorities for the year ahead:

  • Strengthening KPI tracking to provide clearer data on the impact of legal access.
  • Expanding ethical AI initiatives to ensure Jus Mundi remains at the forefront of responsible legal technology.
  • Growing the global legal network to connect more professionals and institutions across borders.

In a legal landscape where transparency, technology, and accessibility are increasingly intertwined, Jus Mundi’s report serves as a rare example of a company putting its mission under the microscope—and inviting the legal community to hold it accountable.
