The International Court of Justice and the Parties: A Statistical Overview by Edgardo Sobenes

About the paper

In commemoration of the 74th anniversary of the International Court of Justice, the author provides a statistical overview of the contentious cases that have been brought before the Court, and of the parties involved in those proceedings. In a three-step analysis, and with the support of tables and graphics, the author identifies which countries have appeared the most before the ICJ, and reflects on how further data-driven analysis can contribute to a better understanding of inter-state litigation and the actors involved.
