LIAC and Jus Mundi Announce Exclusive Partnership to Share Non-Confidential Arbitration Awards

The Lusaka International Arbitration Centre (LIAC) and Jus Mundi are pleased to announce an exclusive partnership to make LIAC’s non-confidential arbitration awards and related materials globally accessible. This collaboration advances the transparency and development of international arbitration, particularly in Africa and the Southern African region.

Through this partnership, Jus Mundi will host and index select non-confidential LIAC arbitration awards on its global database, enabling legal professionals, scholars, and the public to access and analyze these materials with Jus Mundi’s advanced AI-driven research tools.

Speaking about the partnership, Nakasamba Banda, Secretary General of LIAC, stated:

From its inception, LIAC resolved to position itself as a formidable local, regional and international center for the resolution of disputes. Lusaka is one of the most central locations in the whole of Southern Africa and LIAC seeks to leverage this unique and central positioning.

This partnership with Jus Mundi marks a significant milestone for the LIAC. By making non – confidential awards readily accessible on a global platform, we are not only enhancing transparency and promoting best practices but also solidifying the role of LIAC as a leading arbitration institution in the Southern Region and beyond.

We are confident that this collaboration will foster a greater understanding of our legal and cultural landscape, procedures, and decisions, promote access to legal information, and ultimately ensure a global future.

About LIAC

The Lusaka International Arbitration Centre (LIAC) is a forum for the administration and resolution of international commercial and domestic arbitrations and other alternative dispute processes. Its establishment was a response to the business community’s quest for a reputable forum for speedy disposal of commercial disputes, and in support of the government of the Republic of Zambia’s agenda of facilitating the effective administration of justice by redirecting commercial disputes away from courts so as to create space for matters not suitable for resolution through Alternative Dispute Resolution.

The Centre is established as a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee under the Zambian Companies Act, 2017 and was officially launched on the 5th April 2024 by the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Hakainde Hichilema. Its members comprises of professional bodies and private sector representative organisations including the Law Association of Zambia, the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Engineering Institution of Zambia, the Association of Consulting Engineers of Zambia, Zambia Chamber of Mines,  Zambia Institute of Architects, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia, the French Business Forum, the Bankers Association of Zambia to name a few.
