Tell us about your role at Yulchon LLC.
My name is Hyungyu Kang. I’m a partner at Yulchon LLC. Yulchon LLC is one of the biggest law firms in South Korea. My practice area is construction and international arbitration. I provide a package of services for Korean contractors doing overseas infrastructure and construction projects.
How did receiving an accolade from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport shape your approach to helping Korean companies enter the Saudi market?
The accolade from the minister was given based on the project I did for the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK). ICAK is an association of Korean contractors conducting overseas business.
Korean contractors have been working in Saudi Arabia since 1970, for quite a long time. However, they were concerned about the uncertainty of Saudi Arabian laws and their judicial system. ICAK had the courage to engage an external advisor to create a country Bible, including an introduction to the Saudi Arabian construction market and the Saudi Arabian laws relevant to the construction business.
The timing was actually perfect because Saudi Arabia had just established its first civil transaction law in 2023. Thanks to my friend at Trowers Hamlin and the Saudi Contractors Authority, we were able to finalize the book, which will be published quite soon.
How did being an early adopter in the Jus AI Acceleration Program shape your firm’s approach to integrating AI?
Being an early adopter of the Jus AI Acceleration Program was quite interesting.
I still remember when Jean-Rémi de Maistre, the CEO and Co-Founder of Jus Mundi, visited our office and demonstrated the program. We were all like, “Wow,” because we have a sophisticated platform here in Korea that provides information on domestic court decisions. But I never thought this would be possible for international arbitration, where you have to manage a lot of information and deal with precedence cases from different jurisdictions.
First, I was amazed, and then I immediately said, “I want to try this.”
Having tried Jus AI, I believe it will change our work landscape and be especially helpful to lawyers like us who provide legal services across jurisdictions.
What Jus AI features have proven most valuable for you or your team?
For our team and me, I think the research features are the most valuable. Every time I start research, I simply talk to Jus AI and perform a quick keyword search. While the keyword search itself doesn’t provide the final answer, it’s really helpful in streamlining the process and giving you a starting point for your research.
I also use Jus Connect quite often when I need information about potential co-counsels or arbitrators.
Can you share an example of how Jus AI has transformed a specific task in your workflow?
An example of transformation in my workflow would be the very early keyword research. Whenever I have a research task, I start with a quick keyword search on Jus AI.
For instance, if I need to write about prevention principles, I simply type “prevention principle UK law cases.” Jus AI then provides a comprehensive explanation of the principle and highlights a few important cases.
At this point, your work begins because you need to review these explanations and cases, but it saves you the time of sorting through unnecessary data and helps you focus on meaningful information.
